Indy 500 May Celebrations: Porch Parties and Fashion Fridays

Central Indiana is revving up for the 109th Running of the Indianapolis 500. The excitement is palpable.

500 Festival Kickoff to May

The festivities begin with the 500 Festival Kickoff to May, a free event on the north side of Monument Circle. Scheduled from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, this event marks the official start of the Indianapolis 500 celebrations.

The event features:

  • 500 Festival Board of Directors
  • 500 Festival Princesses
  • Race fans
  • 2025 Festival Cars

Porch Parties: A Community Affair

One of the most beloved traditions is the Porch Parties. These gatherings let fans and neighbors showcase their racing spirit by decorating their homes, balconies, garages, and bars.

To participate, decorate your home and register with IMS by Sunday, May 18 at 7 p.m.

The top homes will receive prize packs and visits from drivers and special guests. Porch Party Kits, including decorations and other goodies, will be available at various locations on a first-come, first-served basis:

  • Harrison Center – 6-9 p.m. ET Friday, May 2
  • Fishers Farmers Market – 8 a.m.-noon ET Saturday, May 3
  • Group 1001/Gainbridge – 4-6:30 p.m. ET Tuesday, May 6
  • Avon Public Library – 5:30-7:30 p.m. ET Thursday, May 8
  • Advance Auto Parts – 6-8 p.m. ET Friday, May 9

The best-decorated Porch Parties will be featured on the IMS website and social media. One bar hosting a Porch Party will win the ultimate Molson Coors prize pack.

500 Fashion Fridays

Every Friday in May, fans are encouraged to dress in their most festive *500* gear for 500 Fashion Fridays. This is a creative way for fans to show their Indianapolis 500 pride.

Bike to the 500

With parking sold out for Race Day, the Bike to the 500 program offers fans a safe and healthy way to get to the Speedway. This year, the Race Day commute will begin at the AMP at 16 Tech, with hundreds of bikers departing that morning.
